Setting Up a Matlab Client
Last updated on 15th April 2005 by Buz Barstow.
The latest
release of Matlab can be downloaded from CIT. The latest release
is also stored locally on Bigsis at \\BIGSIS\Data\Applications\Matlab.
The latest version available from CIT at the time of writing is R14
Service Pack 1, although we have disks for Service Pack 2 in 192 Clark.
It has been found that Matlab R14 cannot be installed successfully onto
Linux without physical installation media. The Linux disks are
available in 192.
If you are installing Matlab within our lab, then you should point it
to our license server, remote. That way you are part of our concurrent
license rather than wasting a license for your installation that may
not be in use all the time. To do this you install Matlab as if it was
a stand-alone setup, and then direct it to our license server.
- Get the latest Matlab zip files from Bigsis or the disks from 192.
- Create a local directory to temporarily store the binaries and
the documentation.
- Unzip the binary and documentation files with Winzip. You should
have 3 directories, corresponding to 3 installation disks.
- Start the Matlab setup program, setup.exe in the first directory.
- The program will ask you for a Personal License Password. This
key can be found under Licence_Info in the Matlab directory on Bigsis.
- The setup program takes a while to run, but twice during the
installation is will ask you to tell it where the other two
installation directories are.
- After installation is complete you will need to tell Matlab how
to get a licence key from remote. To do this take the file
licence.dat from the Licence_Info folder on Bigsis and place it
in the directory matlab-installation-directory\bin\win32\license.dat.
