SASL_Passwords - Sending Mail via Bigbro 31 October, 2002 - GEST *** Intro - When you send mail you relay it through Bigbro. This has 2 advantages. 1. Mail returns to bigbro since it came from there. 2. If the mail can't be sent immediately, bigbro will keep trying for you. However, bigbro cannot simply relay every message it receives or spammers can "send" mail from bigbro. To prevent this you must authenticate with bigbro. This is done via a username and password. Unfortunately, right now you must set the relay (SASL) password separately. *** Setting the password - 1. Log into Bigbro as root. 2. Type the command, /usr/sbin/saslpasswd -u bigbro.biophys.cornell.edu USERNAME when prompted enter the password. 3. Check your entry with the command, /usr/sbin/sasldblistusers You will get entries like, user: drschuet realm: bigbro.biophys.cornell.edu mech: PLAIN user: drschuet realm: bigbro.biophys.cornell.edu mech: CRAM-MD5 user: zinter realm: bigbro.biophys.cornell.edu mech: PLAIN user: zinter realm: bigbro.biophys.cornell.edu mech: CRAM-MD5 Make sure the "realm" is right. *** More Info - More information on this is available in the documentation for bigbro.
